I had a campus interview of NVIDIA at my college, Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli for Tool Developer. Following were the four rounds, it took me two days.

Round 1 - Written Test

In the first round, there were 50 MCQs and time allocated was one hour. There were three sections:

  •  The first section was based on C/C++, Data Structure questions. In C/C++ section there were questions like finding the output of a program, logical errors, the flow of program, memory management, pointers, array, structure etc. The questions were a bit difficult. The same section includes questions on data structure like linked lists, AVL trees, BST, graphs. The first section had 30 questions.
  • The second section was on Operating System, there were 10 questions, which includes questions on memory management algorithms, deadlock, finding process time etc. I found this section more challenging than the others.
  • The third section was on Logical Questions such as finding next word/number, puzzles, and aptitude. There were 10 questions in this section. If you are interested give some description on rough paper for the questions. As there was no negative marking, so I solved all the questions and my name was at first position for next round. After four hours results were declared and 27 out of 150 students went for the first technical interview.
Round 2 - Technical Interview I

Even though my name was first in the list but, because of some reasons my interview was on second day but, there were 6 students who were already shortlisted from the first technical interview which they had on day one. On second day at around 11am, I called up for my first technical interview.

I was a bit nervous but when I entered the interview room, interviewer asked me about my breakfast then i smiled and said “yeah, I just took a coffee”. He was a cool guy and asked me to introduce myself and further he went to technical part and asked me questions on my projects, programming languages etc. further he jumped to android, C, C++, Data structure, Graphics programming, some puzzles.

He asked me questions like what is android life cycle, linked list, one graphics program problem of ball and wall, lamp-bridge puzzles, write code for tic-tac-toe game, why you did this project? What you have learned? I gave all of the answers to his questions with confidence (he was also measuring my attitude and confidence in those answers and when something went wrong, he help me to correct those). Your projects are very important, your project does creates a lots of questions and solution as well, so be prepared they will definitely ask you questions on your projects.

All the questions were tricky and some were complicated too, your concentration is needed. If you didn't get the question ask again that doesn’t create any bad impression. Understand, think and then proceed. If you don’t know what to answer then just say sorry I don’t know, making your own answer will made a bad impression. Last question was to write a program for circular liked list. After an hour interview ended.

Total 10 students were shortlisted for next round out of 27.

Round 3 - Technical Interview II

Impressive thing was only 6 students were shortlisted for second technical round and I was the 7th. My two friends( Ramesh & Rushikesh ) were already done with their second technical interview till that time only Ramesh was shortlisted for the HR interview.

The second interview was taken by the project manager. He went through my resume (as I had mentioned my six projects) the interview went on to the projects and extra activities that I had done. He was impressed by my projects, academics as well as the extra activities.

He went thoroughly into my resume, what I mentioned in my resume, what? why? how? and what was my contribution to it? After the second technical round, only 3 students were shortlisted out of 10.

Round 4 - HR

This was my first HR interview. He asked me to introduce myself. I started talking about my college, family suddenly HR asked me to pick up the bottle which was on the corner of the table. I took it and put the bottle back on table and resumed my introduction from where I left (I think the bottle trick was for checking my attitude because he also asked same to Ramesh).

He asked me about the company such as CEO, year of the company established etc. also about the interviews I went earlier. I told him about Symantec so he asked me about viruses and how to detect it (as it was also one part of my project).

He saw all my overall score and asked me to ask any question. I asked about my performance and some improvements. I came out of the interview room, and all the panels were discussing. After about half an hour they announced the result and 3 students were placed out of 150 applied, Rushikesh Gaidhani, Me and Ramesh Nagargoje from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli were got offer from NVIDIA.

On behalf of the Semicolon blog team we would like to thank Kishor Kamble for sharing his interview experience. Godspeed!
